Horizon Pulp & Paper is looking for a dedicated professional to pick up the position of

Head of Environmental Protection Department

You will be offered a leading role which accomplishes a great opportunity to manage and further develop the field of environmental protection.

The company offers you support in all ways of best practice and knowledge sharing, expecting from you proactiveness and initiative to drive the business further. As head of department you’ll have the overall responsibility for all environmental issues of Horizon concerning fresh water, waste water, air emissions and solid wastes. The purpose is to follow all environmental demands according to legislation. You will also be responsible for ensuring fresh water supply for production and direct effluent which meets the requirements of complex permit into the river.

You will work together with your team of 16 specialists and operators, supervisor of the position being Production Process Head. You will cooperate at all levels of the organization; the external partners are Environmental Board, suppliers of environmental services and other authorities depending on requirements.


Your key responsibilities will be:

  • technological and administrative management of Environmental Protection Department,
  • submitting all reports on time,
  • organizing all water samples and air emission measurements,
  • organizing waste collection and transport (incl. hazardous waste),
  • organizing composting process in the landfill,
  • monitoring mill chemical storage conditions and chemicals consumption,
  • finding possibilities to apply grants for projects (KIK, EAS, environmental tax substitution, etc),
  • managing ISO 9000, 14000 & 50000 system internally with all departments and complete auditing and certification with the agency,
  • taking into account environmental requirements in every new project,
  • constantly updating complex permit and other permits,
  • informing everybody in the organization about environmental matters,
  • answering all official inquiries on time with approval from the Management Board.

Experience and skills set expected:

  • professional or higher technical education in chemistry or in environmental field,
  • professional managerial experience minimum of 3 years,
  • good knowledge of environmental legislation,
  • good knowledge of water treatment processes,
  • general know-how of pulp and paper production processes,
  • excellent organizing and communication skills,
  • analytical thinking and decisiveness,
  • self-confidence, self-motivation and discipline,
  • ability to perform under pressure,
  • excellent Estonian and English language skills, basic spoken Russian is considered an advantage,
  • MS Office skills (Outlook, Excel Word, PowerPoint).
